What is bootloader ?
An Android device consists of several pieces of software, which include the bootloader,radio, recovery, and system. The bootloader is the first piece of software that is run when your device turns on. It decides whether to load the recovery, or load Android and the radio. It packages the instructions to boot operating system kernal and most of them are specifically designed to run their own debugging or modification environment.
Ways to unlock.
In order to unlock your device's bootloader, you basically have two different methods of Unlocking. Anyone can unlock either by the official method provided by the manufacturer (Xiaomi) or unofficial method provided by the developers.

1)OFFICIAL METHOD(Take some days)
By official method you don't have to download several softwares or driver's seperately and then type the commands, you just need Mi Unlock tool which is available in official site and some time. As this is an official method which is provided by the manufacturer itself, it take some days to unlock as you have to get approval from the manufacturer (Xiaomi).The unlock time may vary from 2-3 days to 30-60 days. In my case it took 7 days to get approval for unlocking my Redmi K20/MI 9T. But believe me it is the most reliable and trustworthy way if you really wants to unlock you device.
You wouldn't face any problem by this method but if you face any issue with your device you can easily share your problem to Xiaomi Forums.

2)UNOFFICIAL METHOD(Take just 5 minutes)
The other method from the Official method is this FAST METHOD. In these kinds of method where we have to do something with our phone but by unofficial way is slightly astonishing and hard to believe. But some of them might be risky as well. So, what I am bringing to you is a specially modded version that allows you to unlock the bootloader of your device without waiting and that too in a first attempt. This is made by some developers who usually developing custom roms and custom kernels for Xiaomi devices from a quite long time and are trustworthy.
But as this is an unofficial method so just think once again.
